St. Georges Day Inspired Play

Here are a few St. George's Day play ideas for you to do at home with your child/ren. I have included ideas for a range of ages so there is something for everyone.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Put together a sensory basket full of red and white items for young children to explore. Choose items of different textures and items that make a sound to really ignite their mini senses.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Create a play set up using a red sensory filler as a base, red sensory rice or red pasta would work well. Add any dragon toys and books that you may have. If you don't have one, draw or print out a dragon to add to your play.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Create a mark-making activity using sensory rice, sand, flour or mud and ask your child if they can create a horizontal line and a vertical line like on the English flag. Demonstrate how to do this first and see if they can copy.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Re-tell the story of St. George and his fight against the dragon. Use puppets or teddies if you have them or create your own using a sock.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Get the paint out and ask your child to make their own English Flag. You could use cotton wool to add some texture.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Print out the England flag, cut it up into large pieces and see if your child can put it back together again like a jigsaw puzzle.

I hope you enjoy these activities. Remember, if you would like to share your play with me, use #minisensesplay and I will share as many as I can to my stories on social media.

Happy playing!
